Leaving Nylas
Today I have some bittersweet news to share — I am leaving Nylas, the email startup I co-founded and have been running for the past several years.
It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come. The idea for Nylas was born from my personal frustrations with the world of email products and started out with just a few lines of code written in my dorm room. Many years later with a small team and lots of hard work, we’ve been able to make a huge impact for developers worldwide. Today Nylas processes millions of messages and powers hundreds of apps including our flagship open source email client Nylas Mail. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built, the trajectory of the company, and our huge community of developers.
As part of this transition I’m pleased to announce that my co-founder and I have promoted Gleb Polyakov as the new CEO of Nylas. Gleb has been leading growth and BD for the past two years and I have full confidence in his ability to continue growing the Nylas API business.
I want to thank our earliest investors including SV Angel, Fuel Capital, Data Collective, Great Oaks, and 8VC for their support of this audacious company. I’d also like to thank our many advisors for invaluable help and mentorship along the way. And of course, thank you to our customers, partners, and developers for making all of this possible.
To create something from a blank canvas is intoxicatingly joyful. And to build a sustainable business is deeply rewarding. As my first startup, Nylas will forever be a part of me and I’ll miss the company dearly. But I’m even more excited about what’s coming next.
Onward,
Michael
